Job Title: Construction Materials TechnicianJob Description

The Construction Materials Technician plays a crucial role in supporting construction projects by performing field testing of concrete, soils, asphalt, and other construction materials to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements. This position involves frequent fieldwork, coordination with project teams, and accurate documentation of test results. The role requires travel throughout the greater Cincinnati area and surrounding states, with varying weekly hours depending on weather and project workload.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field testing of construction materials, including concrete sampling, slump, air content, temperature, and cylinder molding, as well as soil compaction using a nuclear gauge and aggregate and asphalt testing as applicable.
  • Conduct laboratory testing in accordance with industry and project specifications.
  • Collect, label, and transport samples to the laboratory.
  • Observe construction activities and document compliance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Prepare daily field reports, test data, and inspection logs.
  • Communicate test results, observations, and deficiencies to project managers and site personnel.
  • Maintain and care for testing equipment and tools.
  • Follow safety protocols and company procedures at all job sites.
  • Assist with additional materials testing or inspections as required.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in construction materials testing with at least 1+ years of experience preferred.
  • Strong report writing and field note-taking skills.
  • Certifications from the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) are highly valued.
  • Proficiency in using nuclear gauges for soil compaction testing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior construction experience such as labor, concrete, masonry, or earthwork.
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings and blueprints.
  • Relevant degree in fields such as Geology, Earth Science, or Construction Management.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites around greater Cincinnati and occasionally to surrounding states.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and flexibility to work early mornings, long days, and weekends as required.

Work Environment

The role involves working almost entirely in the field on various building construction sites, with some out-of-state travel required. Projects may include battery plant facilities, schools, wastewater treatment plants, airport hangars, stadiums, and more. The position offers significant overtime opportunities in the summer, up to 60+ hours. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
