Job DescriptionSet-up, operate, or tend welding, soldering, or brazing machines.
Responsibilities include:
- Interpret shop drawings/blueprints
- Read a tape measure accurately
- Set up MIG/MP welding machines
- Perform GMAW/FCAW welding (MIG and Flux-Core) on Mild Steel
- Use power tools (drill, impact driver, angle grinder, etc.)
- Apply basic construction skills
- Work safely from ladders and scissor lifts, wearing fall protection
- Wear a respirator when required
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand basic welding processes (gas metal arc, plasma arc, resistance welding)
- Apply design techniques, tools, and principles to produce precision plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments
- Monitor welding processes to avoid overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion
- Examine workpieces for defects; measure with straightedges or templates for accuracy
- Set up and operate hand and power tools common to welding trade
- Determine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques
- Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts
