    Description

    Position Summary

    The Drafter/Technician is a hybrid role responsible for supporting product development activities through both technical drafting and hands-on prototype assembly. This position combines SolidWorks design support with manufacturing technician responsibilities, requiring an individual who is equally comfortable working at a computer creating detailed drawings and on the production floor building and testing prototypes. Approximately 50% of the role is dedicated to drafting and design activities, while the remaining 50% focuses on prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Drafting and Design Functions (Approximately 50%)

    • Create and maintain detailed SolidWorks part drawings and assembly drawings.
    • Develop 3D models and detailed assembly designs to support product development initiatives.
    • Generate bills of materials (BOMs) and supporting engineering documentation.
    • Revise and update drawings based on engineering changes and project requirements.
    • Support minor mechanical design activities under the direction of engineering and product development leadership.
    • Ensure drawings comply with company drafting standards and engineering best practices.
    • Assist with document control and maintenance of design files.
    Technician and Prototype Functions (Approximately 50%)
    • Build prototypes with minimal information from SolidWorks models.
    • Build prototypes from engineering drawings, and work instructions.
    • Assemble mechanical and electro-mechanical products and subassemblies.
    • Fabricate, modify, and troubleshoot prototype components as needed.
    • Perform testing and evaluation of prototype units.
    • Document build activities, test results, and observations.
    • Identify design, assembly, and manufacturing issues and communicate findings to engineering personnel.
    • Support validation builds, pilot production activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
    Qualifications

    Education

    Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.

    Experience

    2+ years of experience creating fabrication and assembly drawings using SolidWorks. Demonstrated hands-on mechanical assembly experience.

    • Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on fabrication skills.
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.


    Physical Requirements

    Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods; stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, and perform assembly work throughout the workday.

    Working Conditions

    Combination of office, engineering lab, prototype workshop, and manufacturing floor environments. Must comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
