An EP lab tech, short for Electrophysiology Laboratory Technician, works in the electrophysiology lab at a hospital or similar medical facility to monitor and support patients undergoing procedures related to the hearts electrical system. Duties involve operating specialized electrophysiology equipment to help detect and treat abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), taking patient medical histories, and assisting physicians with other tasks as needed during procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates and monitors electrophysiology recording systems and mapping equipment during EP studies and ablation procedures.
Helps physicians diagnose and treat cardiac arrhythmias and electrical conduction disorders.
Assists physicians during invasive procedures, including catheter ablations, pacemaker implants, and ICD placements.
Makes patients feel comfortable and informed during tests and procedures.
Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other medical and administrative staff.
Ensures all EP lab tools, catheters, and equipment are properly functioning and stocks necessary supplies.
Notifies physicians and nurses about patient test results and changes in cardiac status.
Required Qualifications:
Active American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) credentials; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
Vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state, and federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
Vaccinated for Influenza, seasonal.
