The County of Humboldt Department of Aviation has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team! As a Department of Aviation employee, you will work in an environment with other motivated individuals who are passionate about their work.

This position will be located in McKinleyville, California at the California Redwood Coast Humboldt County Airport (ACV). The County also manages five other airports throughout the County and employees will regularly use a county vehicle to travel to these airports to perform similar work.
Current schedules include 10-hour day or night shifts and includes working on holidays and weekends. Schedules my change dependent upon the needs of the organization. ASW's can also be subject to occasional mandatory "hold-over" or overtime due to weather delays, aircraft mechanicals or other issues outside the control of the airline, due to minimum staffing requirements.

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs routine and skilled work in the maintenance and repair of airport facilities, runways and equipment; maintains airport safety and security and provides emergency services as necessary; performs related work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Airport Service Worker I is the entry level class in this series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties in aviation services and airport operations. This class is alternately staffed with Airport Service Worker II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher level class.
Airport Service Worker II is the skilled working level class in this series. Incumbents are expected to perform the full range of duties with minimal supervision. While this class contains some work elements found in maintenance classes, it is distinguished from these classes in that these duties relate specifically to aviation services and airport operations. This class is distinguished from Airport Operations Supervisor in that the latter has day-to-day supervisory responsibility for aviation services and airport operations.

Must possess a valid California drivers license. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to maneuver equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification within six months of hire.
Desirable Education and Experience:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills outlined above is:
Airport Service Worker I: Two years of experience in general building and facility maintenance work.
Airport Service Worker II: In addition to the above, one year of airport operations and maintenance experience at a level equivalent to the Countys class of Airport Service Worker I.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD
Persons appointed to regular County positions serve a probationary period. This is normally six (6) months but could be up to one (1) year. All designated safety employees serve a one-year probationary period.

All County of Humboldt employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.

Typical shifts may start as early as 3:00 A.M and end as late as midnight. The airport is operational seven days per week, including holidays and weekends. Current shifts may be adjusted to accommodate the needs of our airline partners or the needs of the organization. Late flights, aircraft mechanicals, or construction activities also can affect schedules. Construction activity may occur on a graveyard shift. Are you willing to be flexible with respect to scheduling?
