Job Summary
The Food Services Specialist supports the daily operations of the Nutrition Services Department by preparing and serving meals, assisting patients and guests, maintaining food safety standards, and ensuring an exceptional dining experience. This role combines food preparation, patient meal service, customer service, and kitchen sanitation to help provide quality nutritional care throughout the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Kitchen Operations
- Prepare meals for patients, café guests, and catered events using standardized recipes and menus.
- Follow therapeutic diet guidelines and food safety procedures.
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Stock and rotate food supplies while monitoring inventory levels.
- Report inventory shortages and equipment issues to leadership.
- Wash dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Maintain clean and sanitary food preparation areas in accordance with health regulations.
Patient & Customer Service
- Assemble patient meal trays accurately according to dietary orders.
- Deliver meals promptly while ensuring patient preferences and dietary restrictions are met.
- Pick up meal trays and assist with meal service throughout the hospital.
- Provide courteous, professional service to patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
- Respond promptly to questions and resolve food service concerns with professionalism.
Teamwork & Safety
- Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention standards.
- Collaborate with teammates to ensure efficient daily operations.
- Participate in departmental training and ongoing education.
- Follow hospital policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Nutrition Services operations.
Job Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of cooking experience.
- One (1) year of customer service experience.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques and food safety practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred
- SERV Safe Certification.
- Previous experience in a hospital, healthcare, restaurant, or institutional food service environment.
Compensation & Schedule
Compensation: Competitive pay based on experience.
Schedule: Full-time or part-time opportunities may be available. Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on departmental needs.
