    Job Title

    Heavy Equipment Operator

    Job Summary

    Operates a variety of heavy equipment including preventive maintenance. Daily operation of equipment would include: three-wheel street brooms, specialized trash machines, large farm/beach tractors, beach sanitizer machines, tracked and wheeled skid steer loaders. Occasional equipment can include; loaders, excavators, backhoes, tankers, flatbeds, snowplows, dump trucks, etc.

    Job Duties

    Essential duties and responsibilities include:

    • Performs maintenance worker duties when not acting as a heavy equipment operator.
    • Daily operation of equipment would include: three-wheel street brooms, specialized trash machines, large farm/beach tractors, beach sanitizer machines, tracked and wheeled skid steer loaders. Occasional equipment can include; loaders, excavators, backhoes, tankers, flatbeds, snowplows, dump trucks, etc.
    • When not operating equipment, will perform duties as maintenance worker to maintain the cleanliness and functions of the Town streets, beach and boardwalk areas including support of numerous special events.
    • Work includes some lifting of heavy items with and without assistance.
    • Work schedules vary but will include nights, weekends, and holidays during the year.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Education, experience, certificates, licenses, registrations:

    • Minimum one (1) year of driving experience with Valid CDL commercial class "A" driver's license with endorsement for "Air Brakes"
    • Must have current DOT physical card and ability to pass all mandated alcohol/drug tests
    • Must have one (1) year of satisfactory paid employment in the operation of automotive equipment, trucks, or equipment used in this position.

    Preferred:

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

    Other skills and abilities:

    Ability to pass a physical examination.

    Language skills:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine maintenance reports and brief correspondence. Ability to speak communicate with the general public and employees.

    Reasoning ability:

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, hear and smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
