He/she will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.Under general supervision, this individual will serve as the instructor and will prepare and teach the Continuing Education, HVAC /Refrigeration Technician course. The purpose of the instruction is to equip students with the necessary occupation‑specific and employability skills for success in the workplace.Duties/FunctionsTeachingDevelop learner‑centered lesson plansEmploy teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning stylesIncorporate, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environmentsCreate and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse learning populationPrepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriateConduct appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriateProfessional DevelopmentParticipate in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintain current credentials or licenses as required by program or accreditationParticipate in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategiesAdministrationMaintain classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipmentProvide for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintain safe working conditionsMaintain student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using a variety of technology‑based programs (e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor, Moodle)Comply with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulationsStudent SupportAddress student concerns in a timely mannerPromote retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for successRefer students to campus and community resources when appropriateDemonstrate and model the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem‑solving, responsibility and teamworkAdditional Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform all duties as assigned by supervisor.Education RequiredAssociate of Applied Science Degree in HVAC or related field from an accredited post‑secondary institutionChlorofluoroCarbon (CFC) Refrigerant certification or ability to obtain within 6 monthsEducation PreferredBachelor's of Applied Science Degree in HVAC or related field from an accredited post‑secondary institutionExperience RequiredThree years working in the HVAC Refrigeration field or in a similar positionTeaching experience and/or industry training experience in HVAC topicsExperience PreferredGreater than three years working in the HVAC Refrigeration field or in a similar positionPost‑secondary teaching experienceExperience with assessment of student learning outcomesExperience with distance learning and/or alternative instructional delivery systemsKSA RequiredThe Instructor shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its “open door” policy. He/she shall have demonstrated personal and professional competence for the responsibilities assigned.
