Administrative Summary

The Interim Director of the Sustainability Certificate is a one-year appointment terming at the end of Summer 2027 and will lead the administration of the university's first all-college certificate. Sustainability is an interdisciplinary topic that has relevance in nearly every area of work and life, and the certificate is expected to grow rapidly. Certificate completion will allow students to contribute to an informed citizenry that is creating sustainable solutions for Idaho and beyond, and to cultivate an ecologically sound, economically prosperous, and equitable society for current and future generations. The Interim Director will play a critical role in advising students currently enrolled in the program and recruiting prospective students to the certificate. Fiscal year employees are encouraged to apply.

Academic year faculty will receive a 10% base salary stipend and are required to continue the work until the end of Summer 2027 under summer contract. Fiscal year faculty will also receive a 10% base salary stipend and are required to complete the duties until the end of Summer 2027.

The Interim Director will be responsible for:

• Providing leadership in designing, implementing, managing, and delivering the university's Sustainability Certificate(s)
• Organizing meetings of the Sustainability Certificate Faculty Working Group and serving as a voting member
• Overseeing the review of course inclusion proposals
• Overseeing certificate assessment (in cooperation with the University Sustainability Director and the Associate Director of Assessment)
• Suggesting changes needed to improve the certificate's curricula, structure, and/or instructional approaches based on assessment findings and national best practices
• Coordinating with faculty across campus to grow membership and strengthen the program identity and university-wide commitment
• Coordinating logistics for program-sponsored events
• Leading recruiting and retention efforts
• Guiding the submission of proposed certificate changes to the UCC and, when relevant, the State Board of Education and the university's institutional accreditor.
• Helping to organize the annual Sustainability Course Development Workshop and other professional development events for faculty
• Serving as official advisor for the Sustainability Certificate and relevant "Dept Chair" on Change of Curriculum forms related to the certificate

Contingency Description

This administrative appointment or the administrative portion of the faculty appointment is temporary. Employee acknowledges and agrees that in the event there is no longer a need for the administrative assignment, as determined by University in its sole discretion, University may change this Agreement and remove the administrative salary and/or course release during the contract year and employee may return to their faculty appointment, upon 60 days written notice.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Degree Required Listed degree qualification is required at time of application. Required Qualifications

• University of Idaho tenure track or non-tenure track associate professor or higher with a terminal degree in their disciplinary field and experience relevant to sustainability
• Experience working in interdisciplinary activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience proposing new courses or curricula.
