    Job Description

    Maintenance – Groundskeeper

    Maintain safe, clean, and attractive district grounds and landscaping. Prepare and maintain athletic fields to ensure safe and functional playing surfaces.

    Qualifications

    Education/Certification:

    • Valid Texas driver's license

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    • Ability to understand detailed written and oral instructions
    • Ability to communicate effectively
    • Ability to safely operate power-driven equipment

    Experience:

    • None required

    Major Responsibilities and Duties

    Grounds and Landscaping

    1. Mow and detail district grounds, including athletic fields.
    2. Follow scheduled maintenance plans to care for lawns, trees, shrubs, and flower beds through watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, and weed control.
    3. Plant shrubs, trees, and other vegetation.
    4. Assist with preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking and lining.
    5. Collect and properly dispose of leaves, dirt, debris, and refuse.
    6. Assist with inspection, repair, and installation of irrigation systems.

    Safety

    1. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
    2. Follow proper safety techniques when lifting, climbing, and operating machinery.
    3. Correct unsafe conditions and promptly report conditions that cannot be immediately corrected.
    4. Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe operating condition.
    5. Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency; perform preventive maintenance as needed.
    6. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

    Other

    1. Transport equipment and materials to work sites throughout the district.

    Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors

    Tools/Equipment Used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including backhoe, tractor, grader, and power mower; light truck or van. Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching, and driving. Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis. Environment: Work primarily outdoors on uneven or slippery surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, noise, vibration, herbicides, fertilizers, electrical hazards, and machinery with moving parts; may work alone; may work irregular or prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
