JOB OBJECTIVES:
Under general supervision. The position has no responsibilities for reports and/or records. Several decisions are made weekly requiring some interpretations and judgments. Position has little or no contact with the public and no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Operates one or more of the following pieces of equipment and vehicles: front end loader, backhoe, commercial mower, water tanker truck and dump truck.
2. Cleans canals, clean out storm drains; clears right-of-way for roads and canals.
3. Grades dirt streets, prepares dirt streets for paving, repairs road shoulders.
4. Drives dump trucks in picking up and delivering materials, debris and supplies.
5. Services vehicles with oil, gas, water, and grease; notifies mechanic of any repairs needed.
6. Picks up litter manually and with heavy equipment.
7. Performs related duties as required.

EQUIPMENT / MATERIALS:
City vehicle, two-way radio, front end loader, backhoe, commercial mower, water tanker and dump truck.

WORK CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Some unusual working hours, irregular hours or shifts. May involve occasional travel; exposure to hazards which might result in serious injury or death; may work under extreme outdoor conditions. Little or no physical effort; requires little movement and infrequent lifting greater than 5-15 lbs.

EDUCATION / SKILLS REQUIRED:
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent; however, will be afforded an opportunity to acquire within nine (9) months if the applicant does not possess one at the time of employment. Possess sufficient experience involving approximately 1 to 2 years employment in related field and/or can be supplemented by some special schooling in the field. Must have sufficient knowledge of the subject to perform effectively, with little supervision, in work situations which are varied or which have deviations and irregularities. Must have sufficient knowledge in a field to perform most normal work as assigned with little direction supervision. Must also possess a valid Texas Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record is required.
