Position: Mobile Heavy Equipment & Diesel MechanicType: Full-timeLocation: Virginia Beach, VATravel: 10%Contingent Upon AwardPosition SummaryThe Mobile Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing advanced maintenance and repair of automotive, heavy truck, construction, and diesel powered equipment in both shop and field environments. This role executes all levels of corrective and preventive maintenance with minimal supervision and ensures mission readiness of NSW ground assets. The mechanic documents all maintenance actions in the Fleet Focus system and supports expeditionary and contingency maintenance requirements as directed.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform all levels of maintenance on heavy trucks, CESE, and diesel equipmentDiagnose and repair suspension, steering, brakes, drivetrain, and powertrain systemsConduct tire mounting, balancing, and replacementPerform welding, metal work, and minor fabricationSupport field and expeditionary maintenance operationsOperate Government vehicles in the performance of maintenance dutiesDocument labor, parts, and repairs in Fleet FocusFollow OEM guidance, NAVFAC P300/P480, and NSW maintenance standardsSupport surge and contingency maintenance requirementsRequired QualificationsU.S. citizenAbility to obtain and maintain a Secret clearanceAbility to obtain installation access credentialsMust have a valid driver's license (Commercial driver's license (CDL) where vehicles exceed 26,000 lbs GVW preferred)Minimum 6 years as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanicExperience with OEM dealerships, commercial fleet shops, or military intermediate level maintenance facilitiesAbility to independently diagnose and repair heavy equipment and diesel systemsProficiency using Asset Works Fleet Focus or similar maintenance management systemsASE certification in diesel engines plus at least two heavy truck categories (e.g., brakes, drivetrain, suspension, electrical, HVAC, preventive maintenance)Strong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work in Government facilities and controlled areasCompliance with drug‑free workforce requirementsAbility to lift up to 75 poundsStanding, bending, kneeling, climbing on equipmentWork in shop, motor pool, and field environmentsExposure to noise, fuels, lubricants, exhaust, and outdoor conditionsPhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
