This role provides advanced technical leadership across the Foundational Platforms team while remaining an individual contributor role unless otherwise defined by leadership. The IT Infrastructure Foundational Platforms team helps maintain and improve the core infrastructure services that support Heartland Dental\''s operations.Heartland Dental is the nation\''s largest dental support organization, providing non-clinical administrative support services to more than 3,000 supported doctors across 39 states and the District of Columbia in 1,900+ dental offices. All Heartland Dental supported doctors are united by a common goal: delivering the highest quality dental care and patient experiences.To give you an idea of the team structure, you will work on the IT Infrastructure Foundational Platforms team, reporting to the Sr. Manager, Platform Engineering. This role partners closely with Application Development, DevOps, Networking, Security, Help Desk, and other technology teams to support stable and effective infrastructure services. Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities you would take on in this role:Support the IT Infrastructure Foundational Platforms team through expert-level technical leadership, large-scale initiative ownership, standards development, architecture input, advanced escalation support, and coaching of engineering talent.Lead the design, implementation, documentation, and improvement of complex infrastructure solutions within assigned platform domains.Manage large technical initiatives or complex infrastructure workstreams with limited oversight, coordinating across multiple IT teams as needed.Establish and maintain engineering standards, technical patterns, configuration practices, and operational best practices for assigned platform areas.Serve as the highest-level technical escalation resource for complex or persistent issues within assigned infrastructure domains.Coach, review, and support the work of lower-level engineers through technical guidance, documentation review, and knowledge-sharing.Evaluate emerging technologies, platform trends, and operational needs to advise leadership on practical future-state direction and modernization opportunities.Partner with App/Dev, DevOps, Networking, Security, Help Desk, and other IT teams to align infrastructure design, implementation, and support practices.Support long-term platform planning, technical roadmap input, lifecycle management, and risk reduction efforts for assigned technologies.Lead root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities for significant platform incidents or recurring technical issues.Complete other duties as assigned. Minimum RequirementsBachelor\''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.7+ years of advanced experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, or a related technical role.Expert knowledge of infrastructure components and configuration practices, including servers, storage, cloud technologies, operating systems, networking, security, or related platform domains.Demonstrated experience leading complex technical initiatives, large infrastructure projects, or cross-functional technical workstreams.Strong record of resolving highly complex technical issues and serving as an advanced escalation resource.Ability to coach, review, and guide lower-level engineers while promoting technical consistency and operational discipline.Strong communication skills with the ability to advise leaders and influence cross-functional technical decisions.Ability to travel as needed to support business operations, team collaboration, company events, training, and other organizational priorities, including overnight travel.Desirable Qualifications12+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, or a similar technical role.5+ years of experience with cloud-based infrastructure or hybrid infrastructure environments.5+ years of experience in an ITIL, Agile, or similar framework-based IT environment.Advanced certifications in relevant infrastructure, cloud, security, project management, ITIL, or industry frameworks.
