Plans, organizes, schedules, and assigns paint and body repair tasks for non-revenue vehicles to personnel. Estimates labor and repair costs. Develops and maintains computer and manual files for payroll, attendance, project budgets, and vehicle repairs. Ensures compliance and promotes aspects of the Environmental Management System to employees and coworkers. Implements and maintains safety programs. Conducts meetings on safety, proper tool usage, equipment upgrade projects, and other related topics. Investigates and reports accidents and injuries. Follows up on ordered parts, equipment, and supplies. Conducts first-level disciplinary and grievance hearings. Conducts vehicle inspections to assess damage or malfunctions, identifies issues, schedules necessary repairs, and supports staff in resolving problems. Reviews and approves finished bodywork and paint repairs Inspects equipment and tools to ensure they are in proper working condition. Prepares various reports, develops presentations, and manages special development projects. Supervises and trains subordinates. Accounts for subordinate and personal compliance with all of Metro's safety rules, polices, and procedures.
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes: Education: Associate's Degree in a related field or equivalent training from a recognized trade school Experience: Four years of relevant experience in body repair and painting of automobiles and other equipment, including two years of relevant experience at the lead capacity Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements: Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required. Valid California Class C Driver license. Must be able to work on any one of three shifts and weekends. May be exposed to weather, chemical, electrical, and physical hazards when performing duties.

Tools, materials, methods, and practices used in the automotive body repair and the painting trade. Automotive repairs, cost estimates, and frame straightening processes. Safe and proper use of tools, equipment, and materials. Accident investigation procedures and practices. Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing body repair and painting of non-revenue vehicles. Project planning and budgeting techniques. Principles of supervision. Skill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things) Planning, organizing, and monitoring the work of a vehicle body repair and painting work unit. Reading and understanding schematics. Interacting professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives. Communicating effectively orally and in writing. Using painting tools and equipment. Ability to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result) Exercise judgment and creativity in making conclusions and recommendations. Develop and maintain files for payroll, attendance, and budgets. Operate computers, Maintenance and Material Management (M3) program terminals, and diagnostic equipment. Meet productivity demands. Analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions. Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets, and labor/management agreements.
