    Description

    Food Service Assistant

    Under the supervision of the location's Food Service Assistant of a higher grade and the Food Service Coordinator, the employee will perform a variety of semi-skilled duties in preparing and serving meals in a school setting. Job duties include serving the correct portion of food in a school cafeteria and assisting students in choosing food items offered. The employee helps prepare all meal components; wash, peel, weigh and portion fruits and vegetables for meal service. They maintain all sanitary and health standards regarding food handling, cleaning and care of equipment, and dish washing. The employee maintains good public relations in the kitchen, school and community. They perform related work as assigned and attend staff meetings and in-service trainings as required.

    Qualifications include the ability to follow oral and written instructions, work efficiently with food service employees, staff and students, and have a friendly, positive attitude. Physical requirements include the ability to carry, lift, move and put away food, supplies and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and having the stamina necessary for the efficient performance of duties. Transportation requires a valid driver's license and a vehicle as the employee may be sent to another location temporarily if needed due to staff shortages.
