Full Time and Part Time Kitchen Steward

Overview:

Cleans and sanitizes all dishes, glassware, utensils and pots in accordance with department guidelines; Responsible for maintaining, cleaning and organizing of dish area and storage areas, café, and other areas of food service prep or use as required; Responsible for the assistance in receiving orders, labeling and stock rotation.

Status:

Part Time, 24 Hours/Week and Full Time 40 Hours/Week

$18.00/hour, flexible schedule including evenings and weekends required.

Supervisor:

Kitchen Manager and Food Service Managers

Job Responsibilities:

• Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and/or pans, with machine or by hand
• Empty and clean all garbage cans with hot water, allow to air dry, place liner bag in can
• Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in safe, clean and orderly condition
• Place clean dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment in appropriate storage areas
• Sort and remove trash, compost and cardboard by placing it in designated pickup areas
• Clean floors, counter tops, walk in, freezer and food prep areas
• Organize and label walk in refrigerator items for FIFO (First In, First Out) use
• Organize bulk items for FIFO and ensure bins are full
• Load or unload trucks, carts or pallets of food and supplies
• Stock supplies such as food, utensils and paper goods
• Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas, by hand or using hand trucks
• Clean hoods and vents
• Leave kitchen and food service area in clean and sanitary condition at end of shift
• Assist in food cleaning and preparation

Working Conditions:

• This position will spend 100 of the time standing; environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water; must be able to work safely and cooperatively in a crowded environment
• In addition to Co-op employee dress code requirements, this position also requires clean non-slip shoes - must say non-slip on shoe; clean apron or jacket (provided); hairnet or hat must be worn

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of basic sanitary guidelines
• Ability to follow both written and oral direction
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with co-workers and managers
• Ability to safely lift and move 50 lbs repeatedly and consistently
