Description

MacKay & Somps is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Land Use Planner to join our Roseville team. Our planners frequently have backgrounds in landscape architecture, urban planning or city and regional planning. We work in a highly integrated team environment and are interested in creative individuals who keep up with current trends in the industry and can turn extensive ideas into practical designs. Being able to use AutoCAD and Photoshop software is valuable and being able to create graphics without the use of a computer is also important. Candidates with an interest in and/or experience in land development design are encouraged to apply. Associate and/or Senior Planners will work alongside our Senior Engineering and Project Management staff on a variety of tasks and wide range of land development and entitlement projects (including residential/commercial/industrial and mixed-use developments).ResponsibilitiesAssignments may consist of land use / zoning research, CEQA research and assistance, generating land use plans and grading concepts and preparation of planning / entitlement exhibits and documents. Residential lotting and street layouts, site design, large-scale master planning, Specific Plan preparation, and preparation of tentative maps are examples of the types of skills needed. Tasks will also include oversight, organization, and processing of entitlement packages, as well as coordination with public agencies, special interest groups, and project consultants in obtaining entitlement approvals.Required Skills and ExperienceFamiliar with planning and land development terms, methods, processes, and principles. A functional understanding of land use / zoning principles and the CEQA process. A background of basic design principles and understanding of horizontal and vertical components of site design, with an overall sense of practicality. Strong written, graphic, and oral communication skills are required. Experience in preparing Specific Plan documents is preferred.Relevant Expertise/TrainingRelevant experience in CaliforniaWell-versed in Community Design and Land Use PlanningGeneral understanding of Zoning law / CEQA & Environmental Permitting / Subdivision Map ActExperience with Development Review and Entitlements ProcessesMaster of Basic Design PrinciplesUnderstanding of Site & Sustainability AnalysisAble to meaningfully participate in Public and Community PresentationsRecommended Software SkillsAutoCAD Civil 3DAdobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesignMicrosoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Education / ExperienceB.S in City and Regional Planning or a BLA in Landscape Architecture or a related field from an accredited university is required. Must be authorized to work in the United States.8+ years practical experience working in the land development industry with expertise in land planning, land entitlement, and site development approvals. The successful candidate will be a highly proficient planner with proven experience and be able to work independently with mentor guidance. This candidate will also be an internally motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented, client-driven work environment.
