    Description

    Senior Principal Instrumentation Engineer

    Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Principal Instrumentation Engineer to provide instrumentation and controls engineering services, technical leadership, and project support. This role will serve as a key technical resource withinthe instrumentation and controls engineering team and will work closely with project stakeholders, customers, procurement, construction, commissioning, and other engineering disciplines.

    Responsibilities
    • Deliver instrumentation and controls engineering services that meet customer requirements, applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, project schedules, and budget expectations.
    • Initiate, manage, and, when required, supervise instrumentation and controls engineering project requirements.
    • Serve as the instrumentation and controls engineering lead on specific projects.
    • Define project requirements, actively promote workshare where appropriate, assign tasks, and supervise project progress.
    • Participate in project meetings, prepare progress reports, and follow established checking and quality procedures.
    • Ensure project scope is clearly defined and that changes are managed in accordance with established project change management processes.
    • Provide technical assistance and advice during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
    • Prepare technical requisitions, conduct technical bid evaluations, and support the preparation of purchase orders.
    • Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies between project requirements and customer expectations.
    • Keep current with the latest developments, technologies, and technical innovations in the instrumentation and controls engineering field.
    • Provide guidance, assistance, and technical support to junior personnel within the instrumentation and controls engineering team.
    • Communicate effectively with engineering teams, project stakeholders, customers, and other project participants.
    • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and seek assistance when required.
    • May serve as a technical consultant within areas of expertise.
    • Make formal technical presentations to customers and company management.
    • Assist with project cost estimating and the development of proposal content.
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as appropriate for the position.
    Qualifications
    Required Experience and Technical Skills
    • Extensive relevant experience in instrumentation and controls engineering.
    • Demonstrated experience working in a project leadership role.
    • Experience estimating project costs and preparing proposal content.
    • Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills with a consistent ability to deliver quality, accurate, and timely work.
    • Strong knowledge of the fundamental requirements of instrumentation and controls engineering, as well as a working knowledge of other engineering disciplines.
    • Strong knowledge of applicable local and international standards, codes, and statutory and regulatory requirements.
    • Competent use of instrumentation and controls engineering software.
    • Proficiency with relevant software applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Substantial technical and practical experience in instrumentation and controls engineering within the same or a similar industry.
    • Experience working on multidisciplinary projects and within cross-functional engineering teams.
    • Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    Education and Credentials

    Required:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent applicable experience where permitted by law.

    Preferred:

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
    Additional Information

    This is a contract-to-hire opportunity based in Reading, PA. The ideal candidate will bring significant instrumentation and controls engineering expertise, strong project leadership capabilities, and the ability to provide technical direction across complex, multidisciplinary projects.
