Hutco, Inc. is currently seeking experienced Sheet Metal Workers to join our team in Newport News, Virginia. This role involves the installation of foundations, ventilation, bulkheads, shipboard furniture, and general sheet metal fabrication. Candidates with marine experience are preferred; however, experience in aircraft, industrial, or commercial sheet metal work is also acceptable.
Ability to read and interpret complex ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, and datum/reference lines. Competency in understanding fractional and decimal dimensions with a ruler. Skilled in laying out, fabricating, and assembling sheet metal parts per specifications. Experience working in physically demanding environments. Familiarity with hand tools (electric drills, grinders, rivet guns) and shop equipment (drill press, press brake, shears). Knowledge of OSHA regulations as they apply to the shipbuilding industry.
Rigger/Material Handling experience. Familiarity with Mobile Equipment (e.g., JLG, Scissor Lift).
Role requires physical stamina, with potential exposure to temperature and humidity extremes. Compliance with all Newport News PPE standards and safe work practices.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Interpreting detailed ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches for accurate layout and fabrication. Using small hand tools and shop equipment to complete fabrication and assembly tasks. Following all safety protocols and ensuring PPE compliance. Operating in a collaborative environment, maintaining productivity in physically demanding settings.
