Apply today to become part of the Universal team!Position SummaryThe Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the maintenance shop supporting Universal Logistics Holdings' fleet and operational equipment. This role ensures safe, efficient, and cost‑effective maintenance practices while leading technicians, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting operational uptime across logistics and transportation services.Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & MaintenanceManage day‑to‑day shop operations, including preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and breakdown responseEnsure fleet and equipment readiness to support transportation, warehousing, and logistics operationsSchedule and prioritize work orders to minimize downtime and maximize asset utilizationOversee inventory levels, parts procurement, and vendor relationshipsLeadership & People ManagementLead, coach, and develop maintenance technicians and support staffAssign work, monitor productivity, and enforce performance standardsSupport hiring, onboarding, training, and disciplinary actions as neededPromote a positive, safety‑focused, and accountable work cultureSafety & ComplianceEnsure compliance with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, EPA, and company safety standardsConduct and document inspections, audits, and maintenance recordsEnforce safety protocols, PPE requirements, and housekeeping standardsLead incident investigations and corrective action implementationManage shop budgets, labor costs, overtime, and maintenance spendTrack KPIs such as cost per mile/hour, productivity, and equipment availabilityPrepare reports related to maintenance performance and complianceApprove invoices, timecards, and maintenance documentationIdentify opportunities for process improvements and cost savingsCollaborate with Operations, Dispatch, Safety, and Corporate Maintenance teamsSupport company initiatives, new equipment rollouts, and system implementationsQualificationsRequired5+ years of experience in fleet, transportation, or industrial maintenance2+ years in a supervisory or management roleStrong knowledge of diesel equipment, trailers, material handling equipment, or related assetsWorking knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulationsProficiency with maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft OfficeStrong organizational, leadership, and communication skillsWhy Universal Logistics HoldingsIndustry leader in customized logistics solutionsStable, growing organization with national reachCompetitive compensation and benefitsOpportunities for career advancement within operations and leadership#J-18808-Ljbffr
