    Substitute Food Services Utility Worker

    PURPOSE STATEMENT

    The job of Food Services Utility Worker is done under the supervision of the food services supervisor and site cafeteria managers for the purpose/s of providing assistance and support to the food services department; operating a delivery truck over designated routes to transport school lunches and supplies; and taking delivery of supplies at each school site on a scheduled basis. The Granite Bay High School Cafeteria manager will coordinate the duties of this position.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
    • Drives a delivery van over designated routes in accordance with time schedules for the purpose of picking up and delivering school lunches and supplies, as scheduled.
    • Cleans ovens, proofers, slicers, dishes, carts, bakers racks, transport boxes, refrigeration units and delivery vehicles, and any other kitchen equipment as needed, for the purposes of maintaining a sanitary environment.
    • Maintains and makes minor repairs to food services equipment throughout the district for the purposes of keeping equipment in good working order.
    • Moves and rearranges kitchen equipment for purposes of promoting efficient use of time and space.
    • Picks up orders from vendors and distributes them to various sites for the purposes of ensuring efficient delivery of perishable and non-perishable food products to locations where they will be stored.
    • Distributes food services supplies and equipment that are delivered to a central location to various sites for the purposes of assuring the availability of supplies used in the preparation of meals.
    • Removes food product from freezers, refrigerators and storage units on a daily basis for the purposes of ensuring proper handling and rotation of food as required by the health department.
    • Cleans and organizes food storage areas for the purposes of ensuring easy access and availability of product used in the preparation of meals.


    JOB REQUIREMENTS - Minimum Qualifications

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    Skills are required to perform single non-technical tasks with some need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions.

    Knowledge is required for safe operation of a delivery van and the use of efficient cleaning and organizational methods.

    Ability is required to learn schedules, understand and follow oral and written instructions, perform heavy physical labor and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of the work.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsibilities include cleaning kitchen equipment, delivering lunches and supplies to other sites, picking up and distributing product from vendors, removing food from freezers, refrigerators and storage units, maintaining and making minor repairs to equipment, and cleaning and organizing food storage areas.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; significant climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; significant reaching and handling. Generally the job requires 30% standing, 65% walking and 5% sitting. The job is performed under significant temperature variations, some hazardous conditions (e.g. mechanical, cuts, burns, infectious disease, high decibel noise, etc.) and in varying atmospheric conditions.

    Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

    Required Testing: District-administered defensive driving class

    Continuing Educ./Training: None

    Certificates & Licenses: Possession of a valid California Driver's License

    Clearances: All clearances required to provide service in a public school district in the State of
