Role summary:

The (USA) Principal, Software Engineer leads the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving technical excellence across multiple teams. This role oversees the full software development lifecycle, applying cloud-native and distributed system principles to build reliable, high-performance AI-enhanced applications. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with cross-functional partners to align engineering efforts with business objectives. The Principal Engineer champions innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence while ensuring solutions meet quality standards and support long-term platform evolution.

About the team:

The CCM team manages a critical tier0 platform supporting configuration management for over 10,000 applications across Walmart. As part of the Global Tech Platform - Runtime Platform organization, the team enables dynamic configuration changes without application restarts, supporting key workflows such as Disaster Recovery and holiday readiness. CCM drives feature flagging and experimentation across cloud and data center environments with rapid propagation. Serving application developers and business users, the team delivers reliable, scalable solutions that enhance operational agility and optimize experiences for Walmart customers and associates.

What you'll do:

• Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver scalable, cloud-native infrastructure and reusable tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps.
• Drive full software development lifecycle activities, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance across multiple teams.
• Architect and implement distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, promoting best practices and architectural consistency.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements and measurable success metrics.
• Ensure high-quality deliverables through sound technical judgment and proactive issue resolution.
• Foster continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, tools, and products.

What you'll bring:

• Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
• Proven ability to lead full software development lifecycles, including design, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Expertise in distributed systems design, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing.
• Strong proficiency in AI/ML integration and building intelligent software systems using multiple programming languages.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and mentorship skills, fostering engineering excellence and innovation.
• Effective collaboration and communication with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Commitment to continuous improvement, problem solving, and strategic technical decision-making.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
