Summary
Okemos High School is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our athletic department as a Varsity Wrestling Coach for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the sport of wrestling, committed to the development of student-athletes, and able to foster a positive and competitive team environment. This seasonal position requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of wrestling techniques, and the ability to motivate and inspire high school athletes.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program that enhances the skills and physical conditioning of wrestlers.
- Plan and conduct daily practices, ensuring a focus on technique, strategy, and team cohesion.
- Organize and oversee all aspects of the varsity wrestling program, including scheduling competitions and transportation for events.
- Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes and promote a balance between athletics and academics.
- Foster a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among athletes, coaching staff, and opponents.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team policies, schedules, and performance expectations.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on individual and team performance, making adjustments to training as necessary.
- Collaborate with other coaches and staff to support the overall athletic program at Okemos High School.
- Ensure compliance with all school, district, and state athletic regulations and policies.
Requirements
- Previous coaching experience in wrestling, preferably at the high school level or higher.
- Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, strategies, and rules of the sport.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with athletes, parents, and staff.
- Ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes to achieve their personal and team goals.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the season).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- A commitment to the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to transport athletes to competitions as needed.
