Job OverviewThe Lead Production Worker is responsible for the smooth operation of their lines, coordinating day‑to‑day work to meet production needs and maintain consistent service levels. The role ensures operational compliance with all food safety policies and procedures, including SQF requirements, and oversees mixing, roasting, QC compliance, and safety. The worker also trains other employees as needed.Job ResponsibilitiesMachine set‑up, pre‑operational sanitary checks, and cleanup when necessary.Perform quality checks according to SOPs.Observe product defects such as broken packaging, open seals, and incorrect fill levels.Oversee the entire line and support staff (Packers and Dumpers), providing direction to meet production needs.Assist in cleaning machines and production equipment in accordance with SQF requirements.Notify supervisors of faulty equipment requiring maintenance, adjustments, or repairs.Ensure safe operation of equipment and protect line associates.Follow HACCP principles and Good Manufacturing Practices, and comply with all safety procedures and regulations.Additional ResponsibilitiesPerform all functions of Production Worker I and Lead classifications, including packing, sealing, vacuum packing, loading hoppers, labeling cartons, and stacking pallets.Count and inspect packages while filling cartons.Set up and load case erectors.Separate rework product back into the hopper.Check raw materials to ensure correct items are being packed.Complete safety checklists for lift equipment.Perform other duties as assigned.Job RequirementsEducation / CertificationsHigh School Diploma, GED, or equivalent related experience.ExperiencePreferred experience in a food or related manufacturing production environment.Experience operating a form‑fill‑seal packaging machine (vertical or horizontal).1–2 years of related experience.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesUnderstanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).Knowledge of safety guidelines and applicable production management systems.Familiarity with HACCP, SQF, ISO, and QS guidelines and procedures.Ability to work in an environment containing tree nuts, peanuts, soy, wheat, milk, and other allergens.Basic reading, writing, arithmetic, dexterity, mechanical reasoning, problem‑solving, and learning ability.Good verbal and interpersonal skills.Ability to function as an individual with minimal supervision and engage in cross‑functional teams.Capability to perform repetitive motions throughout the shift, lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs or platforms multiple times, stand for long periods, and make good judgment decisions when supervision is not immediately available.Work EnvironmentOnsite role at a UNFI location such as a distribution center or office.TravelMinor travel to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for meetings or business reasons.Physical Environment / DemandsAbility to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.Exposure to temperatures ranging from ‑20 °F to 35 °F in perishable operations and 37 °F to 90 °F in grocery operations.Frequent repetitive arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures.Work with hands and arms overhead or beneath equipment, requiring manual dexterity, coordination, and balance.Specific vision abilities: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.Work in an environment containing tree nuts, peanuts, soy, wheat, sesame, milk, and various spices such as pepper and chili.Equal Opportunity EmployerUNFI is an Equal Opportunity employer committed to an inclusive and respectful environment.
