The opportunity Biodiversity is the next frontier in sustainability. With the upcoming European CSRD regulation, in 2025 businesses will be required to assess & disclose their biodiversity impacts. We've secured pre-seed funding from top-tier investors and are already working with leading consulting firms to shape our product. What's next? Launching our platform to the market in early 2025 and positioning ourselves as Europe's leading biodiversity footprint management solution in the next five years. To achieve this ambitious goal, we're investing heavily in tech, with >70% of our funding allocated to building a high-performance product. About the role As our Senior Backend Engineer, you'll work hand-in-hand with our CTO to build the V1 of our platform and lay the technical groundwork for a scalable B2B solution. This is your chance to take ownership and play a pivotal role in a well-funded, early-stage startup with experienced Founders and strong market momentum. Your mission: Build and deploy scalable, production-ready APIs and backend solutions. Collaborate with our CTO to define darwin''s technical architecture. Write high quality code through unit tests, code reviews, and continuous integration. As we grow, help build out the engineering team and set the standard for excellence. What we're looking for >7 years of experience as a Backend Engineer, including at least 3 years in Rust (Axum framework is a big bonus) Experience deploying APIs in production environments, preferably on AWS. A strong understanding of distributed systems and technologies, including RPC protocols, Kafka /message queues , Event-Driven Architectures, to design scalable solutions. Proficient on Terraform / OpenTofu. A "you build it, you run it" mentality, with a commitment to taking ownership from development to production. You can be based anywhere (providing +1/-1 CET): we are open to remote work! Bonus point: Experience in a B2B SaaS environment. Experience with LLM techniques such as vector databases, RAG and fine-tuning. AWS expertise. Experience managing/leading technical projects.
