80% - Officiating Intramural Flag Football Games

• Participant check-in.
• Pre-game captain's meeting.
• Participant safety provided through the unbiased administration of rules decisions based on training for that particular sport.

10% - Documentation of Intramural Flag Football Games

• Verification of final score of all games worked on each completed score sheet.
• Assigning an appropriate Sportsmanship Rating to each team following each game.

5% - Field Set-Up

Required Qualifications

• Work history that required being moderately physically active for hours at a time (maximum of four hours at a time), as evidenced by application materials.
• Baseline knowledge of the sport of flag football or football, as evidenced by application materials.
• Current NFHS Concussion In Sports Certification or willingness to obtain within the first month of employment, as evidenced by application materials.

Advertised Salary Range

$11.10 per hour

• Previous officiating or sports participation experience, as evidenced by application materials.

• History of professional and cooperative behavior and conduct, as evidenced by application materials.

Position Overview

Recreation Services and the Intramural Sports program are seeking students to join our team as an Intramural Flag Football Official for the Fall 2026 Flag Football season. The Intramural Flag Football Official is responsible for providing an atmosphere of fun in a competitive, yet safe, environment. Officials must be able to implement Intramural Sports policies and sport-specific rules to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness, and safety. Officials should maintain a positive attitude on-site and should always be striving to improve their officiating skills.

No prior officiating experience is needed. All training will be provided by student supervisors prior to beginning work.

Participation in Intramural Sports by officials is encouraged!

A wide variety of skills are developed by Intramural Sports officials which include but are not limited to:

This is a seasonal position (Tuesday, 9/8/2026, through Wednesday, 11/11/2026) with the opportunity to also officiate volleyball and basketball later in the fall semester.

• Completed onboarding and be approved to begin work by Tuesday, 9/8/2026.
• Availability to work on Sundays as evidenced by the Work Availability section in the application.
• Availability to be present and engaged at all three dates of the paid Intramural Flag Football Officials Training: Tuesday, 9/8/2026, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, 9/9/2026, from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM, and Thursday, 9/10/2026, from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM.

Review of this position occurs regularly through Tuesday, 9/1/2026.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
