Position Overview

The School of Education & Human Sciences is looking for a creative, curious and organized individual to help tell our stories across multiple digital channels, including social media, websites, blogs, and other platforms. This person will play a key role in shaping the voice and creative direction of the School's social media presence, engaging our audiences through original day-to-day content and community management, contributing to digital marketing planning and campaign strategy, tracking our success over time through analytics reporting, and supporting the overall strategy of the marketing and recruitment team. You will bring fresh ideas for social media campaigns and initiatives with the goal of engaging current and prospective students.

This is a fast-paced role that will require a mix of writing, photos and short videos and content creation using social media app functions. The ideal candidate is passionate about social media and knowledgeable with digital marketing trends. They should be comfortable collaborating in team settings, and will have experience in creative writing or digital media content creation. They will share two examples of work demonstrating these qualities.This position requires a person that is highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent communication skills.

Job Description

60% - Write and brainstorm social media content. Support key social media campaigns. Create on-brand social graphics. Curate social media content. Assist in community management, social media strategy, and reporting.

20% - Assist in the development of blog posts, website content, and other strategic writing as needed. Research and interview contacts for articles. Pitch story ideas in communications meetings.

10% - Provide event marketing and logistic support.

5% - Assist in editing and proofreading collateral.

5% - Perform other communication tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Must be at least sophomore status as indicated in application materials.
• Majoring in marketing, public relations, journalism or related field, or within the School of Education & Human Sciences, as stated in application materials.
• Experience with social media as demonstrated through coursework or previous work or personal experience. Solid understanding of image and accessibility best practices for these platforms.
• Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or another graphic design tool as demonstrated through coursework or previous work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least two semesters left prior to graduation.
• Experience with writing, editing, proofreading and researching through coursework or previous work experience.
• Past volunteer, internship or employment experience where marketing and communications skills were used, as demonstrated in application materials.
• Experience working with social media marketing and communications metrics.
• Experience with basic photography and video skills (can include using cameras, phones or any other device).

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
