    JOB DESCRIPTION

    TITLE: BILINGUAL SPANISH HISTORY EDUCATOR (HIGH SCHOOL)

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

    • Hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or an Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) - Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE)
    • Hold a valid Illinois Bilingual endorsement (Spanish) or meet eligibility requirements for ELS (TBE) as approved by ISBE
    • Hold a valid Illinois Social Sciences - History endorsement (Grades 9-12)
    • ESL endorsement required
    • Demonstrated proficiency in English and Spanish across listening, speaking, reading, and writing
    • Experience or training in Dual Language, bilingual, or multilingual instructional models preferred
    • Strong collaboration, communication, and instructional planning skills
    • Strong content knowledge in secondary mathematics and effective instructional practices

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The Bilingual Spanish History Teacher provides standards-aligned high school history instruction in Spanish and English, supporting multilingual learners' access to rigorous social studies content while developing academic language proficiency in both languages. The educator implements district-approved bilingual or multilingual instructional models and supports students' academic achievement, bilingualism, and biliteracy.

    REPORTS TO: Building Principal and/or Department Chair - Language Acquisition & World Languages or Social Studies

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    In addition to all duties and responsibilities outlined in the District's Educator job description, the Bilingual (Spanish) History Educator will:

    • Deliver high school history instruction in Spanish and English aligned to Illinois learning standards and district curriculum
    • Implement bilingual instructional strategies that support content mastery and academic language development
    • Adhere to district language allocation and program expectations for bilingual or multilingual education
    • Support students' development of social studies concepts and academic vocabulary in both languages
    • Monitor and document student progress in social studies and language development
    • Collaborate with bilingual, ML, and general education colleagues to support student learning and program coherence
    • Communicate effectively with families in English and/or Spanish regarding student progress and course expectations
    • Participate in professional learning related to bilingual education, social studies instruction, and multilingual learner support
    • Support program compliance requirements related to bilingual and multilingual education
    • Promote an inclusive learning environment that values linguistic and cultural diversity
    • Perform other duties as assigned by administration, consistent with the scope of the role

    PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to actively engage with students in a classroom environment for extended periods
    • Ability to support instructional activities in a variety of classroom and school-based settings
