Description for Candidates:
Accountable for the Eastern Region Operations tunnels and electro-mechanical systems, and movable bridges. To ensure proper maintenance and function of assigned electronic systems within established VDOT standards. To perform diagnosis, repair, fabrication, installation and maintenance and preventive maintenance of a variety of specialized electronic, electrical, traffic control equipment in the traffic management systems (TMS) for assigned areas. Perform emergency repairs to provide total maintenance of the facility"s structural, operational, and equipment replacement needs 7 days per week, 24 hours per day, ensuring the safety of both internal and external customers. Ensuring compliance with all established safety standards, VDOT policies and procedures, and electronic and ITS equipment operational standards. Use available resources to resolve assigned work details; ensure equipment is returned to proper operational status within pre-determined time frame.
How you will contribute:
Communications: Communicate effectively and provide customer service when dealing with VDOT employees, contractors, responders and members of the general public.Contractors: Monitor and inspect contractor work. Perform visual and electronic testing and final system evaluation after maintenance, upgrades and, or repairs are completed by contractors.Diagnose, repair, modify and fabricate: Use electronic test equipment, prints, schematics, and diagnostic software to analyze and troubleshoot electronics circuitry and complex system faults. Isolate faults, perform repairs, fabricate and make modifications.Documentation: Prepare routine and technical reports, logs and documentation. Instruct and train staff on the proper use and operation of technical equipment and safety. Report deficiencies noted to supervisor. Respond during off-duty hours for emergencies, equipment failures, backup support, inclement weather, etc.Maintain Records: Assist Contract Administrator in tracking inspection and contractor work records. Provide reports to supervisor, detailing accomplishments and required activities. Prepare weekly and/or daily reports for submittal.Perform Preventative Maintenance: Install, remove, inspect, clean, lubricate, adjust, and calibrate electronics and electrical equipment in accordance with manufacturers" specifications and technical publications and data. Perform corrective and preventative maintenance using a bucket boom truck.Perform Preventative Maintenance: Perform periodic preventative maintenance and inspections of electronic devices and related equipment for assigned program areas.Responsive Troubleshooting and Repair: Monitor maintenance activities in assigned area. Perform responsive maintenance to include testing and troubleshooting at system level, unit level, board level and component level.Routine Work, First and Emergency Response: Perform routine operations or equipment verifications. Perform first response work related to testing and diagnostics and providing same day repair (when parts are available). Respond to emergency call-outs during scheduled call-out assignment.Spare Equipment and Inventory Control: Maintain spare units and replacement parts to ensure problems and repairs are done during first response. Return defective or non-working equipment to shop within 24 hrs., create a repair ticket and attach to unit for identification. Use PDA I Bar code scanner system to track equipment through inventory system. Assist shop staff in bench repairs and gathering information needed to purchase needed parts or spare equipment. Maintain assigned equipment such as vehicles, tools, and test equipment ensuring no loss or damage due to negligence or misuse.Time, Data Entry, and Documentation: Perform time and data entry into financial tracking system as well as into the maintenance database to account for daily repair and productive time. Maintain documentation for equipment testing, troubleshooting and repair. Provide checklists or reports as required.Troubleshoot and Repair Electronic Devices: Diagnose and repair electronic devices for assigned program areas.Work Order Management and Training and System Backups: Perform work order requests as required based on the priority statuses. Develop and update instruction manuals and provide staff training as needed. Develop schedule and perform system software database backups of all facility systems to support timely recovery resulting from system failures and disaster incidents.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to keep detailed and accurate records.Ability to oversee the work of others and plan, coordinate and prioritize multiple assignments and competing priorities.Ability to perform physical labor tasks.Ability to perform troubleshooting at four levels - system, unit, board, and component levels.Demonstrated ability to understand and apply various levels of electronic theory which requires testing, trouble-shooting , and repairExperience applying federal and state regulations and standards related to electronics, electrical equipment, and traffic control equipment maintenance and operations.Experience in the electronics field including troubleshooting, circuit analysis and repair of electrical and electronic equipment.Experience in traffic signal maintenance and operations to include a variety of traffic control devices.Valid driver"s license.
Additional Considerations:
A combination of training, experience or education in Electronics or related field desired.Certification in fire alarm systems desired.F.C.C. Maintenance Technician and other professional certifications.IMSA Traffic Signal Level II
