POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Staff Accountant is responsible for a wide variety of accounting functions at a corporate level related to general ledger accounting – to include preparing and entering various journal entries, entering and tracking completion of journal entries for month end close cycle, general ledger account reconciliations, fixed assets/capital projects accounting, revenue recognition entries at month-end and special projects/other duties as assigned.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (this is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job’s overall responsibilities)

 

  1. Prepare and input journal entries to general ledgers.
  2. Perform general ledger account reconciliations as assigned.
  3. Supports the month-end close process & meets tight schedule requirements.
  4. Supports the annual audit with the Company’s external auditors. Supports periodic audit efforts from government customers, taxing authorities, & other business partners.
  5. Assist in the creation of timely & accurate supporting schedules and analysis.
  6. Review general ledger activity to ensure accurate coding.
  7. Initiate process & system improvements to increase accuracy & efficiency of department tasks
  8. Special projects as assigned

 

JOB SCOPE:  

The Staff Accountant operates within standard operating principles related to accounting and payroll systems and is expected to apply knowledge of law and regulations gained through experience and education and work with minimal daily supervision. The position reviews and recommends to the Corporate Accounting Manager changes in systems and processes.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None

 

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: 

Working closely with the Accounting department staff and those in related departments such as Human Resources, Information Technology and others within and without the company, the Staff Accountant is expected to establish effective relationships and work to resolve problems.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, theories and methods of accounting.
  • Knowledge of legal requirements, regulations and laws applicable to area of assignment.
  • Strong Microsoft office skills with excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
  • Strong customer service skills; the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, peers and other departments.
  • Ability to define problems, assemble related data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make accurate and timely decisions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in an environment of changing time constraints and deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a team player and exhibit a high degree of flexibility, energy, and positive attitude.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business from a fully accredited college or university is preferred.      
  • 3 or more years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity corporate environment, is required.
  • Public Accounting experience preferred, but not required.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:   None required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:    

The physical demands for this position are light to moderate. The position requires sitting and use of hands/arms for extended periods of time using a variety of computer programs, electronic communication tools and related office equipment to accomplish work tasks; operating a motor vehicle including a current driver’s license; reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
