Helping Students Ask Better Questions About the World Around Them

Science classrooms are full of moments where students begin to see the world differently. A lab finally works after three failed attempts. A student who has been quiet all semester suddenly asks a question nobody else considered. A discussion about cells, energy, weather, chemistry, or the environment unexpectedly connects to something real in a student's own life. The work is not always neat or predictable, and that is part of what makes it meaningful. Students learn to test ideas, stay curious, think critically, and keep working through problems even when the answer is not immediately clear.

At Lakeside High School, science teachers help create classrooms where curiosity matters and where students feel safe enough to participate, ask questions, make mistakes, and continue learning. Some students already picture themselves pursuing careers connected to healthcare, engineering, agriculture, environmental science, technology, or skilled trades. Others are still trying to decide whether science is something they are capable of succeeding in at all. This role asks you to work with both students at the same time while building a classroom environment that is engaging, supportive, and grounded in relationships. Some courses may carry expectations aligned to College in the High School partnerships, requiring students to engage with rigorous content, independent thinking, and college-level academic habits.

The district is seeking an educator who understands that science instruction is about more than content delivery or completing labs. Strong science teachers help students become more observant, more confident, and more willing to think through difficult questions. Over time, students begin to trust their own thinking, stay engaged longer when the work becomes challenging, and recognize that learning often starts with being willing to ask one more question than they did the day before.
