    Job Description

    Summary

We are seeking a dependable and attentive 1:1 Health Monitor / Nursing Support Professional to provide continuous health monitoring for a 7th-grade student during the school day. The primary responsibility of this position is to monitor the student's oxygen levels and oxygen needs throughout the school day and respond appropriately according to the student's established health plan and the candidate's training and scope of practice. This is not an academic or classroom support position. The student has reportedly been medically stable for several years and has not required crisis intervention; however, consistent monitoring and the presence of a qualified healthcare support professional are required throughout the school day. The position may be appropriate for an RN, LPN, CNA, or other appropriately qualified nursing/healthcare professional with direct oxygen-monitoring experience.

    What You'll Do

    • Provide dedicated 1:1 health monitoring for an assigned middle school student throughout the school day.
    • Continuously monitor the student's condition and oxygen needs.
    • Monitor oxygen saturation levels as required by the student's established health plan.
    • Observe the student for changes in breathing, oxygen levels, or overall condition.
    • Provide or support oxygen use according to established medical instructions and within the individual's authorized scope of practice.
    • Ensure oxygen-related equipment is available and functioning appropriately during the school day.
    • Recognize changes in the student's condition and follow established school and medical protocols when intervention or escalation is necessary.
    • Maintain close supervision while allowing the student to participate in their normal school-day activities.
    • Communicate relevant health concerns or changes to appropriate school personnel.
    • Maintain appropriate documentation related to monitoring and care provided.
    • Maintain student privacy and confidentiality.
    • Follow applicable school health, safety, and emergency procedures.
    • Collaborate with school nursing personnel, administrators, and other designated staff as appropriate.
    • Complete all required district background checks, fingerprinting, and other employment clearances.

    Experience You'll Need

    Required

    • Nursing, CNA, or other appropriate healthcare-related training/qualifications.
    • Hands-on experience or training monitoring oxygen levels.
    • Experience working with patients or students who use supplemental oxygen.
    • Ability to recognize changes in oxygen saturation or respiratory status.
    • Understanding of appropriate procedures for oxygen monitoring and provision within the candidate's training and authorized scope of practice.
    • Ability to remain attentive to one student's health needs throughout the school day.
    • Strong observation and communication skills.
    • Dependability and consistent attendance.
    • Ability to follow an established student healthcare plan and emergency procedures.
    • Ability to successfully complete required background checks, fingerprinting, and district clearances.

    Potential Backgrounds

Qualified candidates may come from backgrounds such as:

    • Registered Nurse (RN)
    • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
    • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
    • Pediatric Nursing
    • Home Health
    • Private Duty Nursing
    • School Health
    • Respiratory/Pulmonary Patient Care
    • Long-Term Care or Skilled Nursing involving oxygen-dependent patients

    Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate will have direct experience caring for an oxygen-dependent patient or student and will be comfortable spending the school day in a dedicated 1:1 assignment. Because this is primarily a monitoring position, the candidate should understand that although intervention may rarely be necessary, consistent attention and appropriate response to changes in the student's oxygen status are essential.
