Mechanical Engineer (Aircraft Propulsion) - Seattle, WA area

Our client in the Seattle, WA area is an Electric motor manufacturer for electric aircraft and is looking for a Mechanical Engineer (Aircraft Propulsion) responsible for providing support for their Company.

We have been in business 20 years in the US and 8 years in Europe.

Position purpose/core responsibilities:

This Mechanical Engineer position primarily entails design and delivery of flight qualified electric propulsion motors and supporting subsystems. The mechanical engineer will evaluate requirements and use cases and create and iterate detailed CAD models of design options - including rotatives, structures, materials / lubrication selections, assembly processes and test methods. Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer will be expected to support with design documentation release, write technical reports and test requests, analyze test results and mentor junior engineers.

Main Duties:

• Apply aerospace standard design practices to electric aircraft motors and accessories.
• Develop strong understanding of technical and certification requirements for Electric Propulsion Units for aviation.
• Support reviews of designs, manufacturing plans and test procedures to ensure compliance with design and performance requirements.
• Cooperate with other departments through the whole life cycle of the product (Quality, Sourcing, Manufacturing, etc.).
• Develop and support ideas for product simplification and robustness.
• Produce complete design packages - detailed drawings, analysis reports, BOMs, Assembly documentation.
• Take part in test programs to measure and validate motor characteristics.
• Lead resolution of technical problems, achieving buy-in from cross functional teams.
• Mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering with 5+ years' experience in Aviation design.
• Practical experience using 3D CAD (SOLIDWORKS) and PDM systems.
• Aviation propulsion systems experience.
• Manufacturing experience and sound technical knowledge of electric machine design.
• Strong understanding of GD&T: ASME Y14.5-2009 & ASME Y14.100-2013.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong team player, driven to achieve common goals.
