Quality Assurance Technician - Seattle, WA area

Our client in the Seattle, WA area is a Manufacturing Company in the composites industry with new phenolic-resin plastic laminates for aircraft and commercial use and is looking for a Quality Assurance Technician responsible for providing support for their Company.

We have been in business 20 years in the US and 8 years in Europe.

Position purpose/core responsibilities:

This Quality Assurance Technician position primarily entails Testing and supporting and under the direction of the quality engineers or supervisors, analyzes and solves quality problems, prepares inspection plans and instructions, selects sampling plan applications, prepares procedures, performs audits, analyzes quality data, and applies fundamental statistical methods for process control. Supports routine testing of materials/products records & analyzes data to support continuous improvement, customer orders or projects.

Main Duties:

  • Test liquid & solid materials and parts for dimensional, chemical and physical properties. Using wet chemistry and mechanical testing methods per the ASTM standards. Test results are used for certification, monitoring, characterization, qualification, and purchasing approval, Record and report test results.
  • QA specific program management including interaction with shop personnel and customer QA representatives, testing, data preparation, inspection, and certification.
  • Perform Companies internal audits and corrective action for internal audits when needed.
  • Prepare specimens with adhesive lay-up, a belt sander, and a drill press. Also condition samples prior to testing in a variety of environments (steam autoclave, controlled humidity and temperature, etc.)
  • Inspect incoming material for informal receiving inspection and produce receiving reports. Coordinate with shop to arrange truck unloading, when required (big items). Deliver incoming informal items to appropriate location. Deliver incoming formal items to formal receiving inspection.
  • Review and analyze test and SPC data using SPC tools, spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Excel), and other database programs.
  • Resolve quality issues with internal departmental representatives & customers.
  • Participate in continuous improvement to reduce variation, improve consistency and system standardization improving organizational knowledge.
  • Other Job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer a Bachelor's Degree with a Material Science discipline or equivalent.
  • Desire 3+ years' experience with mechanical testing utilizing ASTM standards.
  • Experience in manufacturing of parts for aerospace or defense preferred.
  • Organizational skills; accurate data collection, storage and retrieval.
  • Clear understanding of material identification, control and traceability.
  • Understanding and use of statistical methods.
  • Understanding geometric dimensioning and tolerance.
  • Ability to select and use proper inspection tools.
  • Ability to implement and utilize SPC.
  • Ability to learn and use quality ERP system.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment.
