The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is actively seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty member in Communication at our Leonardtown campus.
Communication faculty are student advisors and former communication scholars and practitioners. Our faculty are engaged and provide students with a theoretical and practical foundation in the study of Communication emphasizing the development of human communication skills necessary for personal, academic, and professional success. CSM faculty are expected to be knowledgeable of learning management systems in addition to face-to-face and innovative technology-based instructional delivery approaches. As such, we are seeking an innovative educator to join our Communication faculty. Communication faculty teach courses such as Intercultural Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Communication Theory, Public Speaking, and Basic Principles of Speech Communication.
Our faculty works closely with students inside and outside of the classroom to help them maximize their success. The Communication faculty maintain a vibrant program that plays an essential role in CSMs academic community by satisfying the Colleges Oral Communication, Critical Thinking, and Cultural and Global Awareness outcomes as well as providing sound education in communication studies for most degree programs. Faculty provide a commitment to program excellence by supporting and encouraging student success through teaching, assessment, developing experiential and service-learning experiences, and serving as club advisors. Communication faculty maintain leadership roles across the college community engaging in the Communication Club, Communication Day, CSMs Public Speaking Competition, Faculty Innovation Team, and more.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Communication faculty teach a wide range of first- and second-year undergraduate classes. The successful faculty member will teach fifteen credit hours per semester and thirty credit hours per academic year of day, evening, or weekend classes. Flexibility is required to work in this position as teaching assignments may vary from semester to semester. There may be an opportunity to teach classes in the summer also. This is an on-campus position, so faculty may be assigned to teach on any campus or center where CSM offers classes. The hired candidate will be asked to teach Early College, for the positions where this may apply. The faculty member hired in this position is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning and success. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, holding office hours, serving on various committees, and demonstrating a commitment to professional development thorough participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities, and organizations.
