    The Production Supervisor Floater is responsible for providing leadership and operational support across all production shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts) by covering supervisor absences due to vacations, PTO, training, or other business needs. This role ensures the continuity of production operations, maintains compliance with food safety and quality standards, promotes employee engagement, and drives continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.

    In addition to shift coverage responsibilities, the Production Supervisor Floater leads and follows up on 6S programs, Lean Manufacturing initiatives, sustainability projects, and continuous improvement activities to support operational excellence and business objectives.

    Duties and responsibilities

    Production Leadership & Operations

    • Provide supervisory coverage for production operations across all shifts as assigned.
    • Organize, coordinate, and monitor workflow to ensure production schedules, quality standards, and productivity goals are achieved.
    • Promote a safe, respectful, and high-performance work environment.
    • Ensure efficient utilization of personnel, equipment, materials, and resources.
    • Monitor production performance and address operational issues to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
    • Communicate production goals, expectations, and performance standards to team members.

    Team Management & Development

    • Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop production employees.
    • Conduct employee training, performance evaluations, and corrective actions as needed.
    • Foster teamwork, accountability, and employee engagement.
    • Support staffing and workforce planning during supervisor absences.

    Food Safety & Quality Compliance

    • Support and maintain compliance with SQF, GMP, HACCP, FSMA, and Food Safety and Quality standards.
    • Ensure adherence to all food safety procedures and quality requirements throughout production operations.
    • Conduct routine audits and inspections to verify compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
    • Oversee sanitation activities to ensure compliance with food safety and quality guidelines.

    Safety & Regulatory Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental standards.
    • Promote proactive safety behaviors and participate in accident prevention initiatives.
    • Investigate safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work environment through consistent application of 5S principles.

    Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing

    • Lead and support Lean Manufacturing initiatives focused on improving productivity, reducing waste, and optimizing processes.
    • Train and coach employees on 5S methodology and continuous improvement practices.
    • Identify process improvement opportunities through observation, audits, and data analysis.
    • Develop, implement, and monitor corrective and preventive actions to enhance operational performance.
    • Measure and report the impact of continuous improvement projects.

    Reporting & Analytics

    • Collect, analyze, and interpret production and operational data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
    • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to productivity, efficiency, quality, safety, and sustainability.
    • Track utility consumption and assist in reporting monthly sustainability metrics.
    • Prepare reports and communicate results to management.

    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Food Science, Business Management, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
    • Equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing leadership experience may be considered.

    Experience

    • Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or food production environment.
    • Experience working in multi-shift operations preferred.
    • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Continuous Improvement, and Operational Excellence methodologies.
    • Experience with food manufacturing, SQF, GMP, HACCP, and FSMA requirements preferred.

    • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Ability to adapt quickly and effectively across different shifts and departments.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and production reporting systems.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.

    Working Conditions

    • Must be available and flexible to work 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts as business needs require.
    • Regular exposure to manufacturing and food production environments.
    • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
    • May occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and work in varying temperature conditions.
