Summary

The Agile Developer (System Automation Software Engineer) supports the modernization of a legacy operational system using a microservices-based architecture and cloud-native technologies in a secure on-site environment at Fort Meade, MD. This role is responsible for building and maintaining automated test frameworks, executing performance and resilience testing across distributed systems, and ensuring software quality throughout the Agile development lifecycle. The engineer partners closely with software developers, DevOps engineers, and program stakeholders to validate functionality, performance, and deployment readiness across the modernized platform. This is a future-funded position currently pending program award and funding approval.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites using tools such as Cypress and Playwright.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain automated functional and end-to-end tests across microservices-based applications.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous integration and delivery processes.
  • Perform load, performance, and resilience testing to validate system scalability, failover, and recovery capabilities.
  • Conduct functional, API, and integration testing across distributed systems and containerized environments.
  • Identify, document, and support remediation of software defects through collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Validate microservice APIs, service integrations, and deployment health within Kubernetes and Docker environments.
  • Support Agile software delivery by participating in sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and daily stand-Client.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to testing strategies, automation tooling, and quality metrics.
  • Collaborate effectively with software engineers, DevOps teams, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of professional experience in software engineering, quality engineering, or test automation; or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph required prior to start.
  • Current CI Polygraph completed within the last 7 years required prior to start.
  • Experience designing and maintaining automated test frameworks and reusable test suites.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
  • Experience working within Agile software development environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Playwright, Cypress, or similar automation frameworks.
  • Experience with JMeter or other performance testing tools.
  • Experience with API testing and documentation tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized deployments.
  • Proficiency in Java, JavaScript, Python, or Ansible.
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing tools such as JAWS or NVDA.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipeline development and deployment validation.
