Bachelor of Education Student Substitute Teacher Opportunity
The Public Schools Branch is seeking dedicated Bachelor of Education students who are interested in gaining hands-on teaching experience while supporting student success in PEI schools through substitute teaching opportunities.

Duties may include but are not limited to:
A Non-Certified Substitute Teacher must manage the class and the students to ensure that there is no gap in the learning process while replacing the Teacher. Primary duties and responsibilities of a Non-Certified Substitute Teacher include:
- Provide teaching lessons based on lesson plans, explaining concepts, and guiding students through related activities;
- Maintain order in the classroom, ensuring students follow school rules, and create a safe and caring learning environment;
- Monitor students during class, transitions, recess, and other school activities;
- Take attendance and manage other related administrative responsibilities such as collecting homework and distributing materials to students;
- Provide feedback to the regular teacher about student behaviour and progress, as well as communicating with other school staff as needed;
- Address and resolve any conflicts or issues that arise during the school day in accordance with school policies and procedures;
- Assist students who may need additional help and ensuring that all students understand curriculum being delivered;
- Uphold school standards or professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must be enrolled in a recognized B.Ed. program;
- Eligible to obtain a Temporary Permit for persons who do not hold a PEI Teacher's License through the Department of Education and Early Years, (https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/service/temporary-permit-to-substitute-for-a-teacher-non-certified) as per the Registrar's Certification and Standards;
- Successful completion of one year of post secondary study at an accredited university or a college in one or more teachable subject-areas;
- Recent and relevant successful experience working with school aged children;
- Commitment to providing a safe, welcoming, inclusive classroom for all students;
- Flexible and adaptable, as daily assignments will vary in location, class composition and grade level;
- Be available for daily assignments (absences) using the SmartFind Express (SFE) system;
- Demonstrated excellent organizational and communication skills;
- Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom;
- Effective oral and written communication, with proficiency in English/French (for French positions you must have both);
- Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate communications with parents;
- Punctual and a strong professional work ethic;
- Eligibility to work in Canada;
- Applicant must have on file or submit a current Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check and have no past or present criminal record which would be detrimental in working in an environment with children, youth and other adults.
