Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Forklift Operator Shipping Lead to oversee warehouse shipping operations during first and second shifts. This leadership role involves managing daily material handling activities, ensuring efficient forklift operation, and maintaining accurate inventory control within a fast-paced distribution environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong team management skills, technical proficiency with warehouse management systems, and a comprehensive understanding of logistics and safety protocols. This position plays a vital role in optimizing warehouse workflows, supporting process improvements, and ensuring timely shipping and receiving of goods.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily shipping activities, including loading, unloading, and staging materials using forklift and other material handling equipment.
- Lead a team of warehouse associates, providing guidance on safe operating procedures, productivity standards, and process adherence.
- Operate forklifts safely and efficiently while adhering to OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Oversee inventory control processes using warehouse management systems (WMS), RF scanners, and AS400 to ensure accurate stock levels.
- Collaborate with logistics teams to plan shipments, optimize warehouse space, and improve distribution center operations.
- Support process improvement initiatives such as lean management techniques to enhance workflow efficiency.
- Maintain compliance with safety standards related to heavy lifting, materials handling, and equipment operation.
- Assist in training new team members on warehouse operations, inventory management systems, and mechanical knowledge of equipment.
- Manage shipping & receiving documentation accurately within the warehouse management system.
- Communicate effectively with managers regarding team performance, operational issues, or safety concerns.
Experience
- Proven experience operating forklifts in a warehouse or distribution center environment.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in warehouse operations or logistics settings.
- Strong knowledge of inventory management systems such as AS400 or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), RF scanners, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with process improvement methodologies like lean management is preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards related to warehouse operations and heavy lifting.
- Hands-on experience with materials handling equipment operation including forklifts and mechanical tools.
- Understanding of e-commerce fulfillment processes, 3PL (third-party logistics), and distribution center workflows.
- Ability to communicate effectively across teams using managerial communication skills.
- Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting basic equipment issues is advantageous.
