    Job Description

    TITLE:                         Packaging Line Operator

    STATUS:                     Hourly

    DEPARTMENT:           Mill

    REPORTS TO:             Mill Supervisor

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Ability to productively learn and operate machine, produce properly packaged pallet loads and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
    • Must have a willingness to perform as a team member by working with and around each of the productions flows in the Mill.
    • Must have the ability to work hours as needed.
    • Must be able to learn Factory Floor System, operate computer software relative to machine.
    • Machine operators may be used in any areas of the plant.
    • Good housekeeping and cleaning are required
    • Train new or back-up operators as needed.
    • Perform other duties as directed by the Supervisor or other member of the plant leadership team.

     

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

    Machine operator job bids require applicants to possess the following criteria before the applicant is eligible to sign an open job bid.

    • Safety – employee cannot have any OSHA recordable or lost time injuries within the past 6 months that were the result of the employee’s actions and/or failure to follow safety policies/procedures.
    • Performance -   employee cannot have a corrective action on file for the past 6 months
    • Timing – Employee must have served at least 6 consecutive months in their current position.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

     

    Education, Experience and Skills:

    • High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED) is preferred
    • Required to read and write
    • 1-3 years manufacturing experience preferred
    • Good written and oral communication skills
    • Computer knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point
    • Forklift operators experience preferred

     

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business documents such as packing lists, manifests, bills of lading, pallet tickets, or job orders.  Ability to listen and communicate effectively with co-workers and customers/clients in an effort to respond to common inquiries or complaints.

     

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to such tasks as inventory control, material ordering, and job order verification.

     

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an assorted number of tasks or instructions.

     

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, bend, and crouch.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is frequently required to lift up to 50 lbs.

     

    Working Environment:

    Typical indoor and outdoor manufacturing environment. The noise level is usually moderate to high and hearing protection is required on the production floor.  Safety glasses are required on the production floor.  Other forms of PPE may be required depending on the work/task being performed.  Occasional weekend or off-shift work required.
