Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools using machine tools and hand tools
Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore grind or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes
Study blueprints, sketches, models or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies
Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicators
Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications
Must be able to layout, construct and maintain small to mid-size stamping and forming dies
Experience building small to mid-size plastic injection molds and aluminum die cast dies
Troubleshooting
Loading workpieces onto the machine, aligning them accurately, and using the grinding wheel to shape and smooth surfaces according to blueprints or instructions
Operate and may set up one or more types of precision grinding machines such as surface, external, internal or centerless, on a limited range of production work having ordinary recessing and contours.
Select wheels for a normal range of materials and finish requirements.
Ability to work with close tolerances and difficult set-ups of parts of irregular shapes.
