    Job Title: Bus Aide

    Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

    Department: Transportation

    Reports to: Transportation Supervisor

    Approved by: Board of Trustees

    SUMMARY

    Ride buses and help driver ensure safe and orderly transportation of students.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Student Management

    • Lift and carry students with disabilities on and off the bus according to their individual
    • Supervise students as they board and leave bus and cross
    • Take children into building and help them find their
    • Learn and adapt to each student''s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional
    • Manage student behavior and report student discipline problems to appropriate
    • Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on

    Routes and Schedules

    • Become familiar with all routes to and from school campus to be of assistance to
    • Maintain an updated route

    Safety

    • Supervise use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seats by
    • Follow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid, if
    • Operate equipment according to established safety
    • Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students,

    • Become familiar with and follow procedures established by transportation and special education

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to write and speak simple sentences.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to perform basic math operations.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

    While performing the duties of this job, frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling is required. Moderate lifting and carrying is required. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee works outside and inside and works around vehicles and machinery with moving parts. The employee may be moderately exposed to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes. The noise level in the work environment is loud, to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.
