Ortho Sport & Spine Physician has 65 clinics nationwide. This is the only surgery center. These patients are people who have had an accident and their lawyers have gotten them a settlement for injuries. The practice does not file to insurance companies. This position is administrative and is the liaison between the doctor and the patient.
The process with a patient could take up to a year from the time of their first clinic appointment to the end of care. The RN Surgical Liaison will work with the patients from the first appointment until the last appointment or surgery. If they do have surgery, then the RN liaison will also make sure the patient understands their care and next steps to recovery. The surgery center is downstairs and one of their clinics is upstairs. It is one building overlooking 285/Roswell rd.

Salary: $80k-$85k
M-F, 8:45-5

The Surgical Liaison serves as an approachable clinical resource for patients and works closely with providers, the Surgical Coordinator, the Clearance Coordinator, and pharmacies to keep patients informed and prepared.
Key Responsibilities
- 1. Conduct the patient conversation after surgery is ordered, explaining the surgical process, the details of the planned procedure, and recovery expectations in accordance with the provider's treatment plan.
- 2. Answer medical and clinical questions within RN scope, reinforce provider instructions, and refer questions requiring further evaluation to the appropriate clinician.
- 3. Communicate financial denial decisions to patients with professionalism and empathy.
- 4. When surgery is financially denied, arrange for the patient to return to the ordering provider for conservative treatment.
- 5. Coordinate postoperative prescriptions with the prescribing provider and appropriate pharmacy, ensuring prescribed medications are communicated to the pharmacy and confirming availability.
- 6. Confirm that local patients have picked up their medications and that pharmacy pickup is scheduled for patients traveling from out of town.
- 7. Complete the pre-surgery screening telephone call, document findings, and communicate concerns to the appropriate clinical team.
- 8. Contact patients two days after surgery and again two weeks after surgery to check on recovery, address questions within RN scope, and escalate concerns as appropriate.
- 9. Maintain timely, accurate documentation of patient education, screening calls, medication coordination, follow-up conversations, and clinical handoffs.
Required Qualifications:
- 1. Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in the state of practice.
- 2. Ability to conduct medical and clinical conversations with patients and care teams using sound nursing judgment.
- 3. Strong patient education skills, including the ability to explain clinical information clearly and compassionately.
- 4. Excellent organization, communication, and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple patients at different stages of care.
- 5. Proficiency with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation.
- 6. Ability to work collaboratively and recognize when patient concerns require provider evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1. Prior experience in a similar surgical liaison, surgical coordination, preoperative clearance, specialty practice, or perioperative nursing role.
- 2. Experience with surgical patient education, telephone screening, postoperative follow-up, or medication coordination.
- 3. Familiarity with eClinicalWorks is a plus, but not a requirement.
