2025-26 SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAN JobID: 1379 Position Type: Substitute/Substitute CustodianDate Posted: 5/6/2025Location: CCSD Maintenance Department  Additional Information: Show/HideSUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAN - $18.10/hour TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Substitute - Temporary, as needeed FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The list of essential duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented. Following established procedures or verbal instructions, selects the proper chemicals and supplies and effectively and safely cleans and disinfects hallways, stairways, offices, meeting and other rooms, auditoriums, restrooms, drinking fountains, benches, etc. Maintains indoor facilities; sweeps, mops, waxes, and scrubs floors; spot cleans, shampoo and vacuum carpets; clean floors as needed for breakage, spillage or illness. Maintains outside facilities; opens and closes gates for buses; removes snow and other debris, sweep sidewalks, hose down surrounding area and lowers flags as required. Cleans chalkboards, trays and erasers; clean toilets, sinks and drinking fountains; fills paper towel dispenser and toilet tissue dispenser. Washes windows and walls; dusts counters, shelves, ledges, bookcases, electrical fixtures, desks, etc. Moves furniture, equipment, and other items such as files, partitions, supply boxes, displays, storage containers, etc. Maintains custodial room in a clean and orderly manner; may inventory and order supplies as required. Assists in setting up for assemblies and for other school activities. Performs minor maintenance to buildings and grounds during student vacation periods. Remains present during evening activities in their respective schools and also see that all exit doors are unlocked and in proper condition for rapid exit in case of fire. (This requirement is of the utmost importance and must not be neglected). Provides safety checks on fire extinguishers or other appliances and equipment. Performs extensive clean-up projects during summer months. Provides assistance to maintenance technicians on details involving minor trade skills. Provides assistance to grounds keeper on special projects. Following established procedures or verbal instructions, selects the proper chemicals and supplies and effectively and safely cleans and disinfects hallways, stairways, offices, meeting and other rooms, auditoriums, restrooms, drinking fountains, benches, etc. Operates floor cleaning machines, buffers, and carpet cleaning machines. Performs special cleaning tasks such as disinfecting contaminated or frequently used areas. Empties and cleans waste containers; transports waste materials to appropriate containers. Ensures that appropriate supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and related items are available to users. Maintains proper inventory of cleaning materials and supplies at assigned workstations. On a daily basis as well as after various public functions, checks windows, doors, and office equipment to ensure they are secured and/or turned off. Maintains outside areas adjacent to the facility in a safe condition by removing snow and other debris, sweeping, and hosing down areas. Performs routine maintenance in the building such as touch-up painting, replacing light bulbs, hanging and removing pictures, repairing and/or installing shelves and other fixtures, patching cracks or small holes in walls, repairing/replacing stair treads, and related activities. Reports damage, malfunctions, hazards, or irregularities of buildings and equipment to supervisor.
