GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

A Food Service Director manages all aspects of dining operations, including staff supervision, menu planning, budgeting, and regulatory compliance to ensure high-quality food service in establishments like schools, hospitals, or restaurants. They optimize kitchen workflows, handle purchasing, maintain safety standards, and drive financial performance. 
Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Management: Oversee daily kitchen and dining room activities, including food preparation, inventory control, and equipment maintenance.
  • Financial & Administrative: Develop budgets, manage food and labor costs, prepare financial reports, and handle purchasing/bids for supplies.
  • Leadership: Hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff to ensure high-performance standards.
  • Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to sanitation, safety, and health regulations (e.g., HACCP).
  • Menu & Nutrition: Plan nutritious, appealing menus that meet client needs and dietary restrictions.
  • Customer Service: Address complaints, engage with clients, and improve dining experiences. 
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience: Generally requires 4+ years of food service experience, with 1–3 years in a management role.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, culinary arts, or nutrition, or equivalent experience.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, communication, budgetary, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of health and safety regulations (e.g., ServSafe Certification).
