Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated, passionate 6th-grade science teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of middle school science concepts and a commitment to creating an engaging, hands-on learning environment. This role focuses on helping students explore scientific ideas through experiments, critical thinking, and real-world connections.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging science lessons aligned with district curriculum and standards
- Teach core topics such as life science, earth science, and physical science
- Create a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving
- Use hands-on activities, experiments, and demonstrations to support learning
- Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction as needed
- Maintain a structured, respectful, and positive classroom environment
- Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress and needs
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to improve instructional practices
- Integrate technology into lessons to enhance student engagement
- Participate in professional development to stay current with best practices
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, or a related field
- Valid teaching certification in Louisiana (or enrollment in an approved alternative certification program)
- Experience teaching middle school students (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of science concepts and the scientific method
- Ability to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Ability to adapt instruction for students with different learning needs
- Passion for helping students develop curiosity and a love for science
Desired Skills:
- Experience with digital learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Seesaw, etc.).
- Familiarity with using interactive whiteboards, tablets, and other tech tools to enhance learning.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and innovate in the classroom to improve student outcomes.
