QUALIFICATIONS:
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Satisfactory Child Protection Registry.
- Mantoux skin test/PPD documentation.
- Cooperative attitude.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff, and parents.
- Good oral and written communication with the ability to present information effectively.
- The State of Delaware requires all public school employees to undergo a criminal background check (state and federal) to determine suitability for employment.
- Appointment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory criminal background check, which is the responsibility of the employee.
- The State of Delaware requires new employees to be paid by direct deposit and to be part of a lag payroll system as conditions of employment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and teach lesson plans, aid students in understanding subject matter, and ensure that regular classroom routines are followed in accordance with school guidelines.
- Provide meaningful instruction to students in assigned classroom(s) while the regular teacher is absent.
- Assess student understanding through informal checks, quizzes, and assignments.
- Maintain an orderly and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning, enforcing school rules and classroom behavior expectations consistently.
- Maintain communication with students, parents/guardians, and school staff as needed.
- Communicate with students concerning their academic and behavioral progress.
- Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- Make reasonable efforts to provide for the care and protection of school property, equipment, and materials.
- Maintain a professional relationship, working cooperatively with all school personnel.
- Participate in department or team meetings, professional development, and other school-related duties as requested.
- Report to work on time every workday, except as afforded by existing law.
- Perform other duties as directed by the school administration
- The substitute teacher must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the substitute teacher is required to fluently speak and understand English.
- While performing the duties of this job, the substitute teacher is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers, and reach with hands and arms.
- While performing the duties of this job, expect occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
SALARY: As per State guidelines: Current FY2026 Rates - Class A-Licensed/Certified Teacher $179 per day; Class B -Bachelor's/Associate's degree $143 per day; Class C-GED or High School Diploma $113 per day. Long Term Substitute additional pay of $25/day beginning on the 11th consecutive day. (After 3 consecutive days unassigned, long-term day count will start over)
ANTICIPATED DATES OF EMPLOYMENT:
Anticipated to begin in October or November 2026 and continue for approximately 12 weeks to cover a paid parental leave. Exact dates to be determined.
