Position Overview

Primary Purpose of the Position

The Division of Nursing is seeking Adjunct Faculty to teach didactic and/or clinical in a variety of courses in the Undergraduate Family/Community Health Area, including Mental Health Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Maternal-Newborn Nursing, and Care of the Older Adult.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Planning and providing theoretical and/or clinical instruction and experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the nursing program and profession
• Facilitating student achievement of course objectives/learning outcomes through varied teaching methods.
• Evaluating student achievement of course objectives/learning outcomes.
• Utilizing feedback from student/faculty evaluations for instructional improvement
• Utilization of evidence-based research in teaching and the clinical practice of nursing

Requirements and Preferences

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required for adjunct faculty teaching didactic.
• Clinical Adjunct Only: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Consideration may be given to individuals with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with preparation in teaching and learning principles in nursing education, as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (such as the NC AHEC Clinical Instructor Partner (CIP) Program and/or in the process of completing the CIP Program).
• A minimum of two years' full-time employment in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse (RN) verified by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
• Work experience and/or teaching experience in mental health, pediatrics, community health, labor & delivery/antepartum/postpartum, or geriatrics.
• Current unrestricted RN license to practice in the state of North Carolina.

• Demonstrate experience in implementing effective teaching/learning strategies in the classroom and/or clinical practice setting
• Demonstrate clinical expertise in mental health, pediatrics, community health, labor & delivery/antepartum/postpartum, or geriatrics.
• Demonstrate ability to leverage various technologies that engage students in the learning process, including online and face-to-face instruction.
• Teach the applications of theoretical nursing skills and clinical practice.
• Effective management of conflict and time.
• Provide student performance evaluative feedback.
• Provide evidence of the ability to mentor and support undergraduate students through engagement in the classroom and/or clinical learning environment.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

• Minimum of 2 years full-time employment in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse (RN) verified by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
• Preparation, teaching, and learning principles as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
• Exhibit the ability to engage in interdisciplinary teaching, learning, and scholarly collaboration with the broader constituencies.
• Show commitment to liberal education, diversity, equity, social justice, and social determinants of health in inclusive environments.
• Exemplify commitment to professional growth and development through engagement in professional organizations, conferences, workshops, and other professional growth activities.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Canvas Learning Management System.

Required License or Certification

• Current unrestricted RN license to practice in the state of North Carolina.
• Clinical Adjunct Only: Completion of the NC AHEC Clinical Instructor Partner (CIP) Program if you do not meet the North Carolina Board of Nursing verified teaching requirements.

• Evidence of continued professional development through membership in a professional organization and/or certification in a specialty area of practice
• Serve as a role model for students in professional, social, and civic areas.

Clinical Instruction

• Conduct the clinical/practicum component of the course
• Correlate classroom content to the clinical practice setting
• Facilitate students' achievement of course objectives/learning outcomes
• Facilitate mastery of clinical practice skills and competencies
• Evaluate students' level of competency and achievement of learning outcomes in the clinical practice setting
