Position Summary:

The Regular Education Para-Educator assists the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups of students, by assisting in producing instructional materials, and helping students with specific individual needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work as assigned by the teacher.

  • Assists with student supervision as assigned by the teacher or administrator.

  • Assists with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.

  • Answers office phone and conveys messages as needed.

  • Operates and cares for instructional equipment.

  • Checks and records student attendance as needed.

  • Assists students in the LMC or resource centers as assigned.

  • Supervises quiet room, study hall, cafeterias, playgrounds, and other areas as assigned.

  • Supervises testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or administrator.

Working Conditions:

This job is performed primarily indoors with the occasional need to go to meetings outside the building and/or to district schools.

Physical / Mental Requirements:

This is a physically light job which involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. This job involves sitting, with a need to move about for significant periods of time. Reaching, handling objects and papers and fine manipulation are all performed frequently. Verbal and auditory communication are both frequently involved. Near acuity is frequently utilized.
