SUMMARY:
The Teacher Consultant is primarily a teacher and a consultant. The Teacher Consultant will serve in a consultative/supportive role with staff, students, parents and representatives from local districts and community agencies. The Teacher Consultant will be responsible for the coordination, development and implementation of instructional programs within assigned areas
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of a Master's degree or higher, special education focus preferred
Valid Michigan elementary or secondary teaching certificate with K-12 special education endorsement
Familiarity with special education procedures, including the development, implementation and assessment of IEPs and Behavior Support Plans
Knowledge and understand of state, local and federal regulations and policies affecting special education
Organization and time management skills
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide instructional and evaluation services to students
Provide consultation to special education and general education classroom staff in areas such as instructional methods, evaluation, effective time management and problem solving/conflict management
Participate in Individualized Education Planning meetings as assigned
Assist in the coordination of program/curriculum design, development and implementation
Assist in the coordination of assigned student activities
Assist with development of behavior plans
Prepare reports to facilitate, document or evaluate programs and assigned duties
Remain up-to-date on current methodologies and strategies for instructional programs for students with disabilities
Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists social workers and other to develop individual educational programs for students
Work with community agencies to coordinate the delivery of services to students
Develop, implement, and evaluate applications of technology for instructional programs
Assist in the coordination, development and implementation of transitional programs and services
Provide consult services to alternative education students with an individualized development plan (IEP)
Complete, in a timely fashion, all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by supervisors
Participate as a member of a Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) to assist in the evaluation of the educational needs of students, as needed
Serve as a resource for the development of district plan goals related to the assigned area
May serve as a resource person to local school district school improvement teams related to the assigned area
Assist in the coordination and implementation of professional development
Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities
Participate in curriculum development programs and in faculty committees
Participate in building special education committee meetings
Demonstrate an understanding of the district's mission, vision and strategic priorities and actively works to advance them through daily practice and professional conduct
Contribute to the culture and climate of the district by modeling its core values, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment and serving as a committed representative of the district's identity and purpose in all interactions with students, families, staff and the broader community
Read and be familiar with the School Student Handbook and Policy Manual of Marshall Public Schools; strict compliance with all rules, regulations and policies is required
Meet all contractual obligations as outlined in the Marshall Teachers' Association Master Agreement
Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents
Perform other related duties that may be assigned by the building principal
